Subitizing refers to the ability to recognize a number of objects without counting them individually. For example, you likely recognize a dice pattern without counting the dots one by one.
Subitizing is widely used in early elementary classrooms but can be equally as beneficial in upper elementary when developing multiplicative reasoning. We can use subitizing in a way that encourages students to recognize equal groups.
The subitizing sorts in this resource will give students the opportunity to build their number sense and multiplicative reasoning using subitizing visuals.
