Just in time for Earth Day! Teach your students about reducing, reusing, and recycling with this engaging mini-unit. Students will be involved in a variety of activities that will encourage them to be more Earth-conscious in their daily lives.
This unit is best suited to Grades 2-4 students, but is very adaptable to Grade 1 as well.
What's Included?
Activities in this mini-unit include:
- a 3 R's information sheet and activity that involves predicting, acquiring new information and using new learning
- a recycling survey and data interpretation activity
- a lunch litter investigation
- a newspaper poetry activity
- math story problems that focus on using and reflecting on problem-solving strategies
- a reuse or recycle cut-and-paste sort
- instructions and samples for a recycled art project...perfect for an Earth Day bulletin board
- a "making connections" template and sentence writing activity
- a Venn diagram and compare/contrast chart comparing reducing to recycling
- a 2-day "What's in your Lunch Box?" activity aimed at increasing awareness of and reducing lunch waste
- a "create a musical instrument" home project complete with parent letter, reflection worksheet, ideas for presentation, and peer assessment template
- Templates and samples for a fun riddle flap book that each student will make
