About
When we use number lines to round numbers to the nearest 10, we allow our students to see how rounding works, which allows them to truly understand it. When you place benchmark numbers and midpoints on a number line, it becomes clear which ten a number is closest to!
This resource will provide scaffolding to students as they work with place value and learn the process of rounding to the nearest 10 on a number line. Help your students master this essential piece of place value understanding!
Let's stop teaching the rounding rhymes and focus on real, conceptual understanding with our students. Remember that the goal is deep understanding and number sense development, not simply getting a correct answer quickly.
What's Included?
This resource contains two sections:
In the Learning to Round section, students will learn about benchmark numbers, how to find midpoints, and how this can help them round to the nearest ten.
In the Practice and Reinforcement section, students will be provided with opportunities to practice what they have learned and use their new rounding knowledge.
This resource comes in a PDF print format and a digital format for use with Google Slides™.
What Teachers Are Saying
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "These were great to start our rounding conversation. Many students did not know how to find benchmarks or what to do when they did find them. These helped students practice the process and understand what is rounding. Students were able to start here and move to larger numbers once more comfortable. I used the digital slides as a center and some of the practice pages as worksheet practice!" Shelley A.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "This was very helpful for my students to learn how to round. There were many practice pages. Thank you." Dawn B.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Fantastic resource to help with teaching rounding numbers!" Kristal D.
