About
Numbers can be an abstract concept for kids, especially those who have not yet built strong number sense. When we teach computation in a conceptual way, effective manipulatives are essential to help students make sense of the explanation.
For example, if you are explaining 92÷4 as the number of 4s that will fit into 92, this can be a tough concept to visualize.
These number tiles can help! For the example above, we can physically take 4s until we have enough to make 92. This not only reinforces what division really means, but also helps students make connections between multiplication and division.
What's Included?
This resource includes numbers 0-10 in both ten frames and as single numbers.
The ten frames encourage students to break problems apart into manageable pieces. For example, when multiplying 16x9, we can visualize it as 10 nines, and then another 9 nines. Suddenly this problem is possible to solve mentally.
