About

Your Christmas Math Centers just got a lot more engaging! These fun logic problem puzzles are sure to challenge your students and get them thinking about addition and subtraction in a whole new way. These are ideal throughout December as early finisher tasks, morning tubs, or partner math centers.

For each of the 20 logic puzzles, your students will find the value for each Christmas symbol and record it on the accompanying recording sheet.

These puzzles work with addition and subtraction to 1,000 and they are TRICKY! If your students are not used to working with numbers in this way, these will be surprisingly challenging. They are best suited to Grades 4-6, but will be difficult for many Grade 4 students.

Ideas for Use

There are many ways to use these Logic Problems throughout the month leading up to Christmas. Try them as:

  • early finisher tasks
  • morning math tubs
  • an "around the room" gallery walk - post the cards around the room and have students circulate, answering them as they go
  • math stations (let students work in partners, and listen to the amazing math conversation they will have as they use critical thinking and reasoning skills!)

If you are like most teachers and teach a class with a wide variety of ability levels, I highly recommend you provide differentiation for your students. You want to provide just enough challenge for each student but not SO MUCH challenge that this activity becomes frustrating.

To help you make differentiation simple, assign specific sets to students, or lay them all out and have students choose the set that provides the perfect amount of challenge for their brain! (This can be a great way to empower your students and teach responsibility for their own learning.)

What's Included?

For each of the 20 logic puzzles, your students will find the value for each Christmas symbol and record it on the accompanying recording sheet.
