About
This subtraction strategy unit provides practice with getting to a ”ten” and then subtracting the rest. Throughout this unit, students will use what they know about the number ten to help them subtract in flexible ways.
Students will realize that 10 (or a multiple of 10) is an easy number to work with, and they can use it to make subtraction easier.
Concrete experiences are KEY to learning flexible strategies like this one. Be sure that you give your students lots of time with ten frames and other representations of tens so they can construct their understanding of this strategy in a visual, concrete way.
What's Included?
This strategy unit includes a reference poster, math talks, activity sheets, and workstation activities so that students can build their understanding in different ways.
What Teachers Are Saying
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "These units are fabulous. I wish I had them earlier this year when I taught this strategy. I'm using them now for students who are struggling. I like the three different levels of worksheets. It is great for my students who need a challenge. Thanks!" Donene S.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I work with LD kids who really struggle with these multi-step processes. The way that this packet fades the prompts and gives the students explicit steps was SO helpful, thank you!" Sped Source by Ms L
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Wow!!! Who knew Making Ten could be so easy? Thanks a million!" Sherilyn B.
